Sails Up 4 Cancer has announced the details of their 2012 Annual Regatta, which will be sailed in Fishers Island Sound on Sunday, June 24. Sponsored by the Mystic River Yacht Club, the Sails Up 4 Cancer Regatta is open to all sailors and all classes, and there is a “Picnic Fleet” for non-racers. This year’s Skipper’s meeting will be held at 6 pm on Saturday, June 23 at the new home of the Mystic River Yacht Club, located in the heart of downtown Mystic at Schooner Wharf at 14 Holmes Street.
The Sails Up 4 Cancer Regatta is an ECSA points event. Trophies will be awarded to the top three boats in each class. The Post Regatta Shore Party will be held at the Mystic Yachting Center, located at 100 Essex Street in Mystic, beginning at 5 pm. There will be a barbecue, a silent auction, entertainment by the Mystic Horns featuring Christine Cooney, an open bar with wine and beer, and Dark N’ Stormy stations.
During the party, Sails Up 4 Cancer will be holding a Complementary Alternative Medicine Expo, hosted by Dr. Megan Marco of Stonington, CT. The expo will feature several exhibitors offering information for healthy living, including acupuncture, yoga, massage, nutrition, meditation and pre-cancerous screenings, to name a few.
“This year Sails up 4 Cancer has pledged our commitment to Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas Program,” said event chairman Bob Davis. “What this means is that leading up to, during and following this year’s regatta, organizers will be working with Sailors for the Sea to minimize the impact the event will have on the shores and the seas. This will include keeping the site clear of debris, using designated pumpout stations, reducing reliance on plastic bottles and cups, and recycling anything left over.”
Sails Up 4 Cancer is seeking items for the silent auction, and volunteers to help on and off the water.
