The Breakwater Yacht Club (BYC), a community sailing program in Sag Harbor, NY, is awarding approximately 60 Learn-to-Sail scholarships as part of its 2009 junior sailing program. Funds were collected through donations and fundraising, and the scholarships will be awarded to students selected by local public schools, the Sag Harbor Boy Scouts, the Sag Harbor Girl Scouts and the Sag Harbor Youth Center.
On July 11, BYC will host the 9th Annual Adventuresail Regatta. Sponsored by the Town of Southampton and hosted every year by BYC, the Adventuresail Regatta provides an opportunity for at-risk girls between the ages of 10 and 15 to crew on a sailboat for a race. Adventuresail is a program of the National Women’s Sailing Association that exposes girls to new sporting experiences and fosters self-esteem. As always, volunteer skippers with boats are needed.
