Scandinavian Cruisers, a new company based in Bandholm, Denmark, is bringing a distinctive line of sailboats to the United States. The Scandinavian Cruiser 20 (pictured), a performance daysailer that resembles a traditional Skerry, has a lifting keel and rudder and a “semi-stayed” rotating carbon wing mast (there’s a fractional headstay for the jib). Sails include a furling asymmetrical spinnaker, full-batten main and furling self-tacking jib with vertical battens. The lightweight, low-maintenance hull and deck are constructed in E-glass, VE resin and Navicell. Sailaway price is $24,900.

The Scandinavian Dory 18 is a versatile 18-footer with the lines of a classic clinker/lapstrake dory. It’s available with a sailing package including a carbon mast, rudder and centerboard and a tri-radial mainsail. Optional rowing packages offer sliding seats, footrests, outriggers and carbon oars for one or two rowing positions. The Dory 18 is row-away priced at under $10,000 and sailaway priced under $16,000.

Scandinavian Cruisers was founded by third-generation boatbuilder Nis Peter Lorentzen, whose recent restoration of a 1954 Skerry led him to found the company. Both boats will be displayed at the Newport International Boat Show in Newport, RI in September and the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, MD in October. Lorentzen plans to introduce 30- and 40-foot daysailers using the same design philosophies. The company’s U.S. marketing office is located in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.
