I am trying to locate the sailboat I grew up with as a boy on the Connecticut coast – a 1962 Ensign then known as Socrates. It was later known as Second Wind and sailed out of Manhasset, NY, until it was sold (circa 2000) to a buyer in Lloyd Harbor, NY.

As much as I appreciate the beauty of the Atlantic and IOD classes, everyone seems to have forgotten the Star.

I was pleased to skipper a J/105 on the July 22 Veterans’ Sail in Oyster Bay.

With the boat sailing away from Steve, I saw that he was not swimming and appeared to be unconscious. As I was wearing a PFD, I dove into the water and swam against a strong current 20 yards to Steve – a difficult task with an inflated PFD.

What a well-written exposé [“Spring Off Soundings Marked by Light Air“] of the excitement of sailing! I can hardly imagine the scintillating conversation during the calm moments. Golf may burn calories, but sailing bakes friendships. Schuyler Winter, via email

As a regular reader, and admirer, of WindCheck, a former owner of Atlantic Class #91, and a former Secretary of the Atlantic Class, I feel I must advise you of errors in Tom Darling’s article [“A Tale of Two Sixes”; July, 2015].

Many clubs need young people to step up and help with RC. While spending time with one’s family is certainly important, time can be made to give back to the sport.

I was laughing while reading Joe Berkeley’s Comanche article[“Great Spirit of Comanche’’ appeared in our July 2015 issue and can be read at windcheckmagazine.com. – Ed.], especially the Kimo W. inflatable alligator section. Great to see some fun infused into the story!

I always enjoy reading John Rousmaniere, and his tribute to Thomas Fleming Day [“Tom Day and the First Thrash to the Onion Patch”; July 2015; windcheckmagazine.com] was certainly no exception.
