Our friends at the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation are presenting the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta in New York Harbor for the third year in a row and you, dear reader, can race on a classic 12 Meter yacht June 15 – 18. This year, racing has been added to Thursday and Friday evenings so that corporate teams and people who work in the city can participate.
“For the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta, you can buy an individual ticket to race on one of the 12 Meters,” said Foundation Chair Jim Cavanaugh. “Or, if you have a group of ten or more you can charter one of the boats yourself! Races are Thursday (Corporate Championship) and Friday evenings (Women’s Championship), plus all day Saturday (Club Championship). Harvard, Princeton and Columbia alumni are forming teams. Will Yale be left behind?”
“Sunday is Father’s Day and the 12 Meters are reserved for family time,” Cavanaugh continued. “You can buy tickets to go pleasure sailing on a 12 Meter past the Statue of Liberty. What a great Father’s Day gift! There will also be a spectator boat to watch the races. And there will be some pleasure sailing opportunities while the 12 Meters are in town.”
“There will also be some incredible spectator opportunities during the 12 Meter Heritage Regatta. One of the spectator yachts is the 157-ft megayacht Arabella. “So get ready. Clear your calendar for this grand week of sailing in New York Harbor. Let’s welcome the historic 12 Meters with open arms and get ready to sail, have fun and party like a sailor!
