Our friends at Sea Cliff Yacht Club in Sea Cliff, NY have announced exciting initiatives for this year’s Around Long Island Regatta (ALIR), which starts July 24 in New York Harbor.

“For the first time in the race’s history, two courses will be offered—the traditional 207-mile ALIR course, and now the 250-mile Around the Islands course,” said Event Chair Shana Spanier-Ciminski. “This will allow the most intrepid of the fleet the opportunity to circumnavigate both Long Island and Block Island, creating the longest distance race of any regatta between Annapolis and Newport.”

“Friends and family of ALIR competitors will be more easily able to track their favorite crew online with support from
YB Trackers, a feature of such prestigious events as the Vendeé Globe and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race,” Spanier-Ciminski continued. “Sea Cliff Yacht Club is also sponsoring a new trophy and new prize for the best onboard photo taken during the race, which will be selected at the discretion of the race organizers from photos shared on the ALIR’s Instagram page.”

“We’ve also partnered with one of the preeminent on-the-water photography outfits, PhotoBoat.com. Leading up to the race, we’ll be sharing some of Daniela & Allen Clark’s best ALIR content from years past. Soon after the start, we’ll be sharing their best shots from what will no doubt be another exhilarating New York Harbor start. Competitors will also be able to access PhotoBoat’s 2025 ALIR library directly from the regatta website.”

“New England Yacht Rigging (NEYR), a full-service rigging outfit owned and operated by skilled offshore sailor Kyle Wishart, has signed on as the Official Rigging Supplier of the 2025 ALIR. NEYR is providing all 2025 ALIR participants with 10% off all parts and labor. For details, email kyle@neyachtrigging.com and tell him Captain Ron Rico sent you.” For more information about the ALIR and to register, visit alir.org. ■
