The Sacred Heart University Sailing Team is hosting a North U Racing Tactics Seminar in Fairfield, CT on Sunday, March 14. A portion of the proceeds from this instructional event, led by North U Director Bill Gladstone, supports the fundraising efforts of Sacred Heart Club Sailing, an up and coming team established in 2011.
The full day seminar focuses on strategy, tactics and rules. Topics include starting set-up tips, final approach techniques, wind shift strategies (upwind and downwind), boat-on-boat tactics (and escapes), and using the Racing Rules of Sailing to your advantage. “When your boat handling is second nature and your boat speed second to none, then tactics will win you races,” said Gladstone, who has been teaching sailing and racing for more than 40 years.
The seminar will be held at Sacred Heart University’s Schine Auditorium, located at Park Avenue in Fairfield. Check-in is 8:30am, and the seminar runs from 9:00 to 4:00 pm. The fee is $125 per skipper, and $95 for each additional crew. For more information and to pre-register, visit NorthU.com.
