To Whom It May Concern,
Hello, my name is Heather Rose Tholen. I was given a vintage wooden Alden Yacht from a boat graveyard and I am restoring her in a four-year project. As I work on her, I wonder so much about the person who built her. I love studying history and I recognize this wooden yacht as a piece of art. Her name is the Miracle.
I hope to train so that I can solo her across the Atlantic when I am done with her restoration. I would love to find anybody who knew John Alden, particularly because I want to know the character of the man that built my boat. I also need a marine architect familiar with Aldens that might be able to advise me how to rebuild her stern. But mainly, it is just the human story. I would give anything to hear about her builder. You ran a piece on John Rousmaniere. I understand that he is very familiar with Alden Yachts and I am hoping to also reach out to him.
I may be reached at 540-280-6617 or by email at rachmaninoffgminor@gmail.com.
Thank you so much for your time and consideration of this letter. It truly would mean the world to me to meet anybody who knew John Alden. Again, thank you for your time and have a blessed day!
Sincerely,
Heather Rose Tholen
Heather – Congratulations on acquiring an Alden…and having perhaps the coolest email address to appear in WindCheck! We hope you’ll consider sharing your upcoming adventures with our readers, from your resto project to your solo transatlantic.
The Classic Yacht Owners Association (classicyachts.org) is a great organization with several enthusiastic Alden owners among its members.
Our friend John Rousmaniere is a longtime WindCheck contributor and (we believe) an enthusiastic reader of this publication, so you may be hearing from him.
