64th Annual Edlu Distance Race
May 11, 2019
Hosted by Larchmont Yacht Club and first sailed in 1956, the Edlu Race has long been a classic tune-up race for the Block Island Race and Block Island Race Week. Followed by a classic party, it’s one the must-do events on western Long Island Sound.
The spinnaker course is 32 nm from the Larchmont Breakwater to Gong 11B off Eaton’s Neck and back. The non-spinnaker course is approximately 20 nm.
The Edlu is open to IRC and PHRF boats. Double-handed, Non-spinnaker, Plus One and One-design classes (e.g. J/100, J/109, J/105, Soverel 33, or J/88) will be established if 5 or more entries are received.
The start times are set for slower boats to start first and allow everyone back to LYC in time for the Sailors Welcome with lots of camaraderie, free hot dogs, chili, beer, dark ‘n’ stormies and live music included in the entry fee. Awards will be presented as soon as practicable after racing so that visiting boats have more time to return to their home clubs.
A Plus One Division is offered for shorthanded boats with a valid PHRF certificate, sailing with spinnakers. A boat’s crew limit is one more person than the 10s digit of the boat’s overall length (in feet). Under this formula, boats from 20 to 29.9 feet sail with a crew of three, boats from 30 to 39.9 feet sail with four, etc. A Plus One class will be established if there are five or more entries.
A “Club” class is available for those boats who do not have a valid certificate and would like a 1 time rating to race. This class is not eligible for any of the perpetual trophies
Moorings will be available on a first-come basis at no charge. Please contact Marine Facilities at the Larchmont Yacht Club for reservations at 914-468-7742.
