This unique event, which features hands-on land- and water-based workshops and seminars, offers women a fantastic opportunity to learn or hone sailing skills, network with other women sailors from all over the United States, and gain the confidence necessary to become a valuable crew member or knowledgeable skipper. An annual Newport tradition unlike any other, this gathering of students of the IYRS School of Boatbuilding & Restoration and families and friends celebrates the launching and sailing of boats built and restored over the previous nine months.

All who use Long Island Sound, whether for sailing, boating, swimming, fishing or commerce, are invited to this public forum about the Long Island Sound Blue Plan. Created by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and a 16-member Advisory Committee, the Blue Plan maps out wildlife habitats and human activity in order to protect the environment, and commercial and recreational uses, while fostering harmonious development on the Sound. Attractions at this free public festival include kids’ games, touch the Branford Fire Boat and Police Boat, try paddleboarding, fly fishing and fly tying demos, craft and boating vendors, safe boating exhibits by the U.S. Coast Guard and SeaTow, music, food trucks, a raffle, and much more.

  Hosted by the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, Connecticut, this two-shows-in-one exhibition features marine-themed artwork by Lyme Art Association members and the annual members’ show of the prestigious Hudson Valley Art Association. Established by the Surfrider Foundation and Surfing Magazine, this global event celebrates the sport of surfing, the surfing lifestyle, and the sustainability of ocean resources. This year, while we band together to share the stoke of surfing, we also aim to raise awareness of urgent threats to our precious coastline, like new offshore oil drilling.
