Entries are now being accepted for Larchmont Yacht Club’s Edlu Race, a middle-distance race that signals the start of Long Island Sound’s distance racing season. Scheduled for Saturday, May 10, this 70th edition of the Edlu will start off the Larchmont Breakwater with a 32-mile course to Eaton’s Neck and back, plus a 20-mile non-spinnaker course.
“The Edlu is a storied contest where yachtsmen vie to etch their names on a permanent trophy with the likes of Ted Turner, Dick Nye, Bill Koch, and DeCoursey Fales,” commented event chair Will Ingraham. “Changes to the course and starting times over the decades made the race more attractive to today’s busy professionals while maintaining its essential character as one of the most competitive, challenging and enjoyable races on the Sound. In addition to ORCi, PHRF, and one-design scoring, this year’s Edlu will also have double handed and non-spinnaker prizes. We actively encourage family cruising yachts to enter the non-spinnaker division with its 20-mile course, which will make a great day on the water for a shorthanded crew or parents and kids. And, if you’re a cruiser and don’t have a rating, contact us at Racecommittee@larchmontyc.organd LYC will assign one to you.”
Remember, you have to sail the Edlu to be eligible for the two LYC/Storm Trysail combined events trophies—The Tuna Trophy (combined with the Block Island Race) and The Book Ends Trophy (combined with the Bitter Ender).
Not to be overlooked is that the Edlu starts on a Saturday morning with the expectation that all boats will be finished and back at Larchmont Yacht Club by mid-afternoon for another memorable Edlu after party.
