Top women sailors from across the country will converge on Newport, RI this coming June for the first running of the New York Yacht Club Women’s Championship.
This invitational event will feature three days of racing in the Club’s fleet of 22 Sonars along with first-class social events at the Harbour Court Clubhouse.
Competition will be held in identically tuned one-design Sonar keelboats with a total of four or five crew. There are no WS group restrictions.
Racing will be take place Friday, June 17 through Sunday, June 19, on Narragansett Bay, with registration and practice on Thursday, June 16.
Going forward, the Club intends to hold this event every other year. But only one team will ever be able to claim it was the first champion. Invitations will be based on resume; request for invitations must be submitted by March 1.
