New Glo Tech Scholarship Fund at IYRS honors Gloria Aurora Borrego

 –  IYRS School of Technology & Trades is proud to announce the establishment of the Glo Tech Scholarship Fund, created in February 2025 in honor of Gloria Aurora Borrego, a pioneering leader in marine systems. This scholarship, made possible by the generosity of her family and friends, will support female graduates of IYRS and industry professionals seeking career advancement in the marine trades and advanced manufacturing technology sectors. 
Gloria Aurora Borrego’s legacy is one of perseverance, innovation, and leadership in traditionally male-dominated industries. Her career spanned multiple high-profile projects, including racing cars, the Whitbread and Volvo Ocean Races, the America’s Cup, and Diana Nyad’s historic swim. The Glo Tech Scholarship Fund ensures her dedication to professional growth and mentorship continues to empower the next generation of women in the field. 
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following criteria: 

  • Be age 25 or older 
  • Have at least four years of work experience in marine trades or advanced manufacturing technology 
  • Be a female graduate of an IYRS certificate program or be accepted into the forthcoming IYRS Women’s Marine Leadership Academy 

Eligible candidates must submit an application detailing: 

  • A clear description of the professional development opportunity for which funding is requested, to include company name, tuition/fee, and contact information. 
  • An explanation of how the opportunity will enhance their career growth and professional goals.
