Newport, R.I. – IYRS School of Technology & Trades has launched an interactive virtual tour of its marine trades and advanced technology campus. IYRS collaborated with education company EAB and the YouVisit virtual experience platform to create the tour which features 10 unique stops including the school’s marina, wharf, welcome center, maritime library and workshops. The virtual tour can be viewed at iyrs.edu as well as https://www.youvisit.com/tour/139527/144564/.

“IYRS attracts students from across the country and the world,” said IYRS President Kern Maass. “For some, touring the school in person prior to attending is impractical. While there’s nothing like experiencing the cedar scent of Restoration Hall in person, the virtual tour comes pretty close to giving the experience of touring our campus.”

Virtual visitors can interact with additional media like video and photo galleries at various stops on the tour to round out the experience. Students can play interviews with lead faculty from each of the school’s four programs: Boatbuilding & RestorationComposites TechnologyDigital Modeling & Fabrication andMarine Systems or explore the Edward W. Kane and James Gubelmann IYRS Maritime Library collection.

The tour is also a way for IYRS industry partners to become better acquainted with the school.  “This week we signed up a new industry partner who hadn’t been to campus in over 10 years,” said IYRS Director of Philanthropy Liz Isdale. “From viewing the virtual tour, they were surprised to learn how our campus had evolved and everything that’s now offered at the school to steward the marine trades workforce of tomorrow.”

All full-time IYRS programs include an externship as part of the curriculum so that IYRS graduates leave with skills that they’ve applied in a workplace setting.
