Stonington, CT – New England Science & Sailing (NESS) is proud to announce that a team of NESS alumnae, known as the Sound Sisters, will compete in the Trophée Virginie Hériot at the Yacht Club de Monaco from March 14-16, 2025. This prestigious all-women J/70 event offers an incredible opportunity for the team to compete on an international stage while championing greater opportunities for women in sailing — a cause that both they and NESS are deeply passionate about.
The Sound Sisters team is composed of (pictured left to right above) Lily Flack (Stonington, CT), Ella Bergendahl (Noank, CT), Eleanor Menezes (Groton, CT), and Sydney Clays (Westerly, RI), all of whom share deep ties to NESS. As former NESS students, educators, coaches, and dedicated sailors, their participation highlights both their skill and their commitment to advancing opportunities for women in the sport.
“Competing in this event is more than just racing for us,” said the Sound Sisters. “We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity to break barriers and inspire the next generation of female sailors!”
In addition to competing, the team will generate content for NESS to share with its community, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their preparations, race experience, and reflections. NESS will follow their journey through website blog posts, social media updates, and email newsletters to celebrate their inspiring story and champion the future of women in sailing.
“We couldn’t be more excited to support this inspiring team with such strong ties to the NESS family,” said NESS Founder and CEO, Spike Lobdell. “They are role models for aspiring sailors, demonstrating the power of perseverance, teamwork, and determination, and reflecting the core values we aim to instill in all our students.”
